If you are a retailer, it is best to print a care sheet with the following instructions and give it to your customers upon purchasing. Did you know it is the open air that causes tarnishing and pitting on plated components? Sulfur and other airborne chemicals are the main cause of tarnish and jewelry tarnishes much faster if it’s left out in the open than if it’s stored away in an acid-free, closed container or airtight baggie. If the findings are left out in a display case for long periods of time and not put away nightly or not put away after wearing, they are likely to tarnish more quickly. Excessive tarnishing will then cause pitting. All of this can be avoided by placing your settings or finished jewelry in airtight baggies when not in use.
